This site is dedicated to the memory of Frances Batchelor.

Frances came into the care of the Waifs and Strays Society at York as a tiny child, following the death of her mother. From 1920 - 31 they gave her a home and a good childhood, and laid the foundations of the deep Christian faith which sustained her all through her life. She never ceased to be grateful for their kindness and care. She grew up to be a compassionate and generous woman. She loved her garden, music (especially, "We'll gather lilacs -" and "I'll walk beside you -"), fish and chips, little children, roses, the seaside, Alan Bennett's writing, sunsets, her tall dark handsome husband Bill and me - her lucky daughter. She was my best friend and a great giggler! She filled my life with love and laughter. When she was old and tired, she quietly went home to God at the age of 89.
